Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many users can QUIPSY accommodate?
QUIPSY can be used by as few as one person or as many as hundreds of users.
Our customers range from self-employed individuals to large corporations.
The majority of our customers are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Do I have to buy QUIPSY, or can I rent or lease it?
QUIPSY licenses are available for purchase and leasing.
We do not currently offer SaaS models.
Do I need my own server for QUIPSY?
QUIPSY requires a Windows server, but it does not have to be dedicated. We recommend using virtual machines.
You can choose between running it on your own premises (on-premises) or in a remote data center (private cloud), provided the network connection is adequate for your intended use.
It doesn’t matter whether you use purchased or rented hardware.
Can I use QUIPSY in the cloud?
QUIPSY can be operated in a remote data center of your choice, provided there is an adequate network connection.
We do not act as the operator ourselves; that is, responsibility for operation remains with the customer or an operator commissioned by the customer, regardless of the location of your server.
Can I use QUIPSY as an on-demand model (e.g., as a cloud subscription, SaaS, etc.)?
We do not currently offer any subscription models and generally only sell licenses that remain the permanent property of the customer.
Can I try out QUIPSY or see it in action before purchasing?
We’d happily show you QUIPSY in action during a consultation; please schedule an appointment by calling +49 7231 14737 810 or emailing info@quipsy.de.
We look forward to welcoming you at our trade show booth. You can find the latest trade show dates at www.quipsy.de/termine.
Can QUIPSY be run in a virtual machine (VM)?
The vast majority of our customers run QUIPSY in virtual machines.
In the vast majority of cases, VMware is used, and in some cases, HyperV is also used.
Can QUIPSY be run in a Docker container?
We are currently working on implementing this deployment option.
At the moment, only the SAP SQL Anywhere database server is supported for running in a Docker container.
Other components of the QUIPSY ecosystem are being added on an ongoing basis.
Can QUIPSY be run on a terminal server?
Many customers use QUIPSY via RDP, preferably via Microsoft Terminal Server (also known as Remote Desktop Services, RDS).
Please note that the connection of hardware interfaces for electronically connected test equipment must be supported by the hardware vendor.
This is the case, for example, with the hardware interfaces from our partner Steinwald Datentechnik.
Can QUIPSY be operated over the Internet?
Some of our customers operate QUIPSY over Internet connections.
We generally recommend fiber-optic Internet connections, as QUIPSY transmits large amounts of data; the connection should have a speed of at least 1 Gb/s.
During intensive measurement operations, the measurement stations should be on the same local area network (LAN) as the server.
Can QUIPSY be integrated into Active Directory?
QUIPSY supports Single Sign-On (SSO) for Windows domain accounts via Active Directory Federation Service (AD FS).
However, QUIPSY cannot be automatically installed remotely on Windows PCs via Active Directory.
Can QUIPSY be integrated into a central user management system (Single Sign-On / SSO)?
QUIPSY supports the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol for integrating an existing Identity Provider (IdP).
This has already been successfully implemented with, for example, Keycloak, Microsoft Azure ID (also known as Microsoft Entra ID), Auth0, and Microsoft Active Directory Federation Service (AD FS).
With AD FS, a Microsoft Domain Controller (DC) can be used as an IdP, meaning users simply log in to Windows, and QUIPSY then automatically recognizes them.
Can I roll out QUIPSY via automatic remote installation?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. An automated setup process must be run on each PC, though it must be started manually.
Which operating systems does QUIPSY support?
QUIPSY can generally only be run on Windows.
However, all newly developed modules feature browser-based user interfaces and therefore also run on Android and iOS.
Can I use QUIPSY on a tablet or smartphone?
QUIPSY can be used in its entirety on a tablet running the Windows operating system.
However, all newly developed modules feature responsive browser-based user interfaces and therefore also run on smartphones (Android / iPhone).
Can I use QUIPSY via Wi-Fi?
QUIPSY can be operated via a stable wireless connection with a speed of at least 1 Gb/s.
Offline use in areas without Wi-Fi coverage is not possible.
Can I connect QUIPSY to an ERP or BDE system?
Most of our customers have connected QUIPSY to ERP systems from SAP, Sage, and others to automatically perform an incoming goods inspection in QUIPSY upon delivery and use the inspection results to direct the flow of goods (return or storage), or have connected QUIPSY to an MES or BDE system from, among others, ProSeS (e.g., ProBDE) to, for example, perform in-process inspections.
When using ProBDE, a production run inspection due in QUIPSY is reported in the BDE shop floor overview and can be recorded directly from there.
Can QUIPSY automatically halt my production?
If desired, QUIPSY can halt the production line; however, nearly all customers choose not to use this feature, since sorting out defective goods later is more cost-effective than actually stopping production.
Can I use Linux?
QUIPSY itself cannot run on Linux, but it can communicate with a database server running on Linux.
Which databases does QUIPSY support?
QUIPSY can use both SAP SQL Anywhere (version 17 and later) and Microsoft SQL Server (version 2025 and later). This includes the free “Express” edition.
Is the database included in the price?
As an SAP OEM partner, we are happy to offer you the SAP SQL Anywhere database at a preferential rate as part of the project price.
Unfortunately, we cannot include Microsoft SQL Server in the project price, as we are not a Microsoft reseller.
MSSQL Express is free.
Who installs and provides training for QUIPSY?
QUIPSY comes with comprehensive documentation and, in principle, can be installed and trained on by your own staff.
However, the majority of our customers rely on our experienced customer service team to handle installation and training as a service provided by us.
We’re happy to include this as part of a project price.
How quickly does QUIPSY pay for itself?
This generally depends on the specific situation. However, the implementation of QUIPSY typically pays for itself within a few months due to reduced workload.
How much does QUIPSY cost?
We’d be happy to provide you with a no-obligation quote. Please contact info@quipsy.de.
Please understand that we do not publish list prices. Every project and every company is different. Therefore, we offer package prices that are tailored to each specific project.
Our license prices range in the low four-digit range, meaning that for an entire company, a one-time payment in the mid five-digit range is typically sufficient.
Is there a tiered pricing structure?
We tier our prices based on the number of users.
Does every user need their own license?
Only users who are actively accessing the system require a license for the duration of their access.
Purchased licenses are thus used on a concurrent access basis.
Example: A company with 100 employees uses 5 purchased licenses. All 100 employees can use QUIPSY, but only 5 people at a time.
Is there a maintenance contract for QUIPSY?
Of course, we offer a maintenance contract for your QUIPSY system upon request.
This includes the right to receive updates for the purchased software modules as well as free access to our hotline.
Do you have any reference customers?
Please understand that our customers wish to remain anonymous.
We would be happy to put you in touch with reference customers once you contact us at +49 7231 14737 810 or info@quipsy.de.
In which industries is QUIPSY used?
The majority of our customers are automotive suppliers or operate in the plastics and metal processing industries.
However, QUIPSY is also used in many other sectors, including medical technology and the food industry.
How long will it take before I can start working productively with QUIPSY?
That depends on the scope of the intended application.
In principle, it would be possible to install and start using QUIPSY® SPC, for example, within a single day.
However, due to operational circumstances (key personnel who cannot be spared, vacation or sick days, a large number of employees, a large number of product variants, etc.), an implementation phase of a few weeks is more realistic. Typically, only about three to five days of this time are spent on paid services: installation, basic training, and follow-up training sessions.
What specific features does QUIPSY offer in the field of plastics processing?
In general, QUIPSY recognizes machines and tools with cavities and knows at all times how many and which cavities are available for use.
QUIPSY is also able to monitor machines with changing tools, materials, and material colors (as well as any material, machine, and tool characteristics) using freely definable labels, and automatically select the test plan best suited to the respective production situation or combination of characteristics.
QUIPSY can be optimized for the specific needs of the plastics processing industry using the product options “Manual Production Date,” “Multiform Hook,” and “Delayed Job Completion,” particularly for handling dimensional shrinkage due to cooling, dynamically changing cavities, and multiple part shapes per shot.
Among its special capabilities are, for example:
* Manually enterable production date to allow for cooling time between the production date and the automatically recorded inspection date.
* Accounting for cooling time so that an inspection job remains available for measurement even though the production job has already been completed.
* Automatic inspection sequence for different parts per shot, such as “left part and right part,” “plug and socket,” or “can and lid,” etc.
* Automatic determination of the cavities to be inspected based on the different molds per shot, for example, “can from nest 1 and lids from nests 2, 3, and 4.”
In addition, depending on the production situation, ProBDE controls which features are to be inspected in QUIPSY—for example, all features before production begins; specific features only every x shots during ongoing production; and additional features after the production order is completed, etc.
Can QUIPSY be customized?
QUIPSY thrives on the ideas of our users, but it is fundamentally a system that has been refined over more than 40 years of daily production use. As an “off-the-shelf” standard product, it is enhanced with new capabilities through annual releases. As a result, our customers rarely require custom solutions. This allows us to offer QUIPSY at comparatively affordable project prices.
For custom adaptations, a standard interface is also available that integrates new functions even during the year (and thus independently of the release cycle) as separately developed custom solutions or as optional product features (hooks, action providers, etc.), without modifying the core system or limiting its ability to be updated. The interface is stable and openly documented, which means that custom solutions can, in principle, also be created by third parties. However, we generally recommend having us develop custom solutions and maintain them long-term as part of the maintenance contract.
How does QUIPSY save work time?
QUIPSY’s vision is that you simply tell the system how something should be done, and the system then takes care of everything in the background—essentially acting as your QA assistant.
QUIPSY saves valuable work time by automating time-consuming, repetitive tasks in the field of quality assurance. Here are a few examples:
* QUIPSY can create inspection plans with a single click from a drawing file, an FMEA, or a control plan—without the need for paper or multiple data entries!
* QUIPSY typically requires only a single inspection plan for an entire family of products, product variants, and production scenarios—no more countless inspection plans!
* QUIPSY automatically distributes all information required for inspection—no more communication and monitoring effort!
* Through bidirectional integration with third-party systems such as ERP and MES/BDE, QUIPSY automatically directs the flow of goods based on their quality—no more effort required for manual blocking!
* QUIPSY automatically generates and sends internal and external complaints—no more effort required for manual complaint processing!
* QUIPSY captures data directly at the testing equipment without the need for paper or data storage media, and can operate semi- or fully automatically upon request—no more effort required for data entry into the computer or correcting typing errors!
* QUIPSY automatically notifies you—for example, via email or on your smartphone—when something unusual happens—no more hassle with gathering information or following up!
* With just a tap or mouse click—for example, on your smartphone—QUIPSY shows you the current status of incoming goods and production—no more effort required for manual evaluations!
* Within seconds, QUIPSY generates and sends comprehensive analyses, including graphs and statistical metrics—no more effort required for manual report creation!
* Using QUIPSY, you can centrally define from your workstation who is responsible for checking what, where, when, how, and how often, and QUIPSY ensures that these individuals are informed in a timely and comprehensive manner—for example, by sending emails or updating current tasks on central displays or personal tablets and smartphones.
Can I connect measuring machines to QUIPSY?
Measurement values can be imported directly from measuring machines into QUIPSY—either semi-automatically or fully automatically (depending on the model and user preference)—without the need for paper or data storage media.
Can I connect electronic test equipment?
Measurement values can be imported into QUIPSY semi-automatically from electronic test equipment, either via a keyboard interface or through manufacturer-specific software, drivers, or interfaces.
We recommend interfaces from Steinwald Datentechnik.
Does QUIPSY support AI?
QUIPSY is continuously being expanded with new features and technical capabilities.
Information from QUIPSY can already be analyzed using AI.
In the future, it will be possible to use AI within QUIPSY itself or to delegate tasks from the QUIPSY suite to AI.
What standards does QUIPSY support?
QUIPSY has been regularly audited by customers.
These audits were conducted in accordance with the requirements of IATF 16949 and other standards.
Data protection and data security principles were observed during the development of QUIPSY.
In doing so, we applied the requirements of the GDPR, the CRA (Cyber Resilience Act), and other regulations.
Is there a trial version or demo?
To see QUIPSY “in action,” especially its numerous “special features,” a large amount of product data and operating parameters is required—without these, the system would be “empty.”
We therefore do not offer a trial version or demo.
However, you can watch numerous feature videos on our YouTube channel.
You can also find numerous articles about QUIPSY features on our blog.
In addition, we offer all interested parties a live demonstration tailored to their specific area of interest. To schedule an appointment, please contact us at +49 7231 14737 810 or info@quipsy.de. We’d be happy to provide a test system *afterward* upon request.
How big is ProSeS?
ProSeS BDE GmbH has approximately 50 employees.
Of these, about 15 work on the QUIPSY team.
How long has QUIPSY been around?
The first version of QUIPSY was developed back in the 1980s.
Since then, the software has been rewritten several times, continuously maintained and actively expanded, and ported to new technical platforms.
How many companies use QUIPSY?
Because QUIPSY has been on the market for so long, it is no longer possible to provide an exact number.
